At least six people were killed and nine others injured in road accidents at Sirajganj and Shariatpur on Saturday night and Sunday.
At Rayganj in Sirajganj three people —Rashidul Islam, 24, Abdur Rahman, 32 and Alamin Hossain, 20, residents of Sariakandi Upazila in Bogra— were killed as a corrugated seet -laden Bogra-bound truck from Dhaka and a covered-van from opposite direction collided at Dadpur Bridge area on Nagarbari-Bogra Highway around 7:00am.
The injured are — Sagor Ali, 30, son of Moslem Ali of village Boroikandi, and Minhaj, 22, son of Mintu, and Md Sohel, 20, son of Abdul Gofur, both residents of village Bara Kutubpur of Sariakandi.
Hatikumrul highway police officer-in-charge Abdul Kader Jilani said the bodies were kept at Hatikumrul highway police station and the injured were undergoing treatment at Rayganj Upazila Health Complex.
In Shariatpur, three workers were killed and six others injured as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Khelsi area of Shariatpur on Saturday night, reports United News of Bangladesh.
The deceased are as Md Rahmat Hossain, 40, Naim Hossain, 25, and Idris, 60, hailing from Chetua area in Ashasuni upazila in Satkhira.
The injured workers said that they had come to Shariatpur from Satkhira on April 24 for cultivating paddy.
Niaz Mohammad, deputy assistant director of Shariatpur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the accident took place around 10:3pam when the paddy-laden truck carrying 12 workers plunged into the roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the wheels, leaving the trio dead on the spot and six others injured.
The injured were admitted at Shariatpur General Hospital.
