For the first time in the division, a Solar Charging Station along the bypass road in Biswanath upazila is all set to be inaugurated in the first week of June.
The solar powered charging station with 21 kilowatt capacity will charge human haulers and battery run auto-rickshaws.
Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity - 1 took the initiative to introduce the charging station with a cost of Tk 50 lakh aiming to reduce pressure on national power grid, sources at the samity said.
Power will be generated by using sunlight and the station will run without any electricity, senior general manager Mahbub Alam of Palli Bidyut Samity-1 said.
‘Once the station is launched, it will help reducing pressure on the national grid as well as load shedding in the area,’ he added.
Some 500-600 battery-run vehicles are consuming power from the national grid, creating frequent load shedding in the upazila.
