Several hundred workers of a garment factory at Kaliakair in Gazipur continued their hunger strike for the 5th consecutive day on Saturday, demanding their arrears and other allowances.
At least four workers of the Ayman Textile and Hosiery Ltd fell sick amid the hunger strike in the morning at the main entrance to the factory.
Their colleagues took them to hospital for primary treatment.
Workers said that the factory management assured them that their arrears would be paid by May 10 but they did not.
They rather shut the unit for an unidentified period on May 20 declaring it as sick industry and without paying the workers.
Since then, the workers continued demonstration and finally on Tuesday they started hunger strike for their demands.
Gazipur industrial police inspector Selim Reza said that the factory management, BGMEA and workers representatives were trying to settle the matter.
To avoid any untoward incidents, additional police forces were deployed in the factory area, he said.
