Leaders of ruling Awami League-backed student organaisation, Bangladesh Chhatra League, have reportedly tortured 35 Dhaka University first year students of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall for not attending a programme of Muktijoddhar Santan O Prajanma Samanway Parishad.
Students of the hall, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, said BCL leaders, loyal to the BCL hall unit secretary Abdullah Al Masud Limon, called the students in the hall guestroom on Wednesday midnight and beat them. Guestroom is a place where general students are usually taught how to behave with Chhatra League leaders.
Students said the BCL leaders slapped and punched the first year students without measure for not attending the programme.
Abdullah Al Masud Limon said he heard about the incident and would take proper action against the offenders as he earlier declared not to ‘hold any guestroom gathering during holy Muslim month of Ramadan.’ Hall provost Zia Rahman
and proctor Golam Rabbani could not be reached over phones after several attempts.
