Seven including two teachers held in extremism connection

The Rapid Action Battalion arrested seven youths including two teachers in connection with extremism in overnight drives in the capital’s Mugda and Jatrabari and Badda on Wednesday.-- Ali Hossain Mintu

The Rapid Action Battalion in a press conference in Dhaka on Thursday said they arrested seven youths including two teachers in overnight drive in the capital’s Mugda and Jatrabari and Badda in connection with extremism.

Of the seven, the battalion-3 officials said Mohibur Rahman Rakib alias Abu Umama was a teacher of Averroes International School in Baridhara while Ershadul Hoque Titu was another teacher.

Mohibur was branded as one of the coordinators of banned organisation Ansar Al Islam.

Five others, the battalion named Kama Uddin, Sifat, Didarul Islam, Rifatullah Sabbir Khan, and Shital Mia and claimed that they were orchestrating plan to carry out attacks as they did in previous time against secular writers and bloggers.

Four books, and various electrical equipment were seized from them, and battalion claimed those equipment was meant to manufacture explosives.     

The battalion-3 commanding officer Emranul Ahsan said they would interrogate them over their plan.
