Police on Sunday recovered the body of an alleged drug abuser who drowned at a roadside ditch at Khilgaon while trying to escape an anti-drug drive.
The deceased was identified as Harun-ur-Rashid, 28, a resident of Tejgaon.
Khilgaon police station’s officer-in-charge (investigation) Jahangir Kabir Khan said the body was recovered at about 4:00pm.
Harun jumped into the roadside ditch during a police raid at Meraida Jheelpar area where the victim had gone to take drug in the early hours of Sunday, said Jahangir.
Police said they were not aware about the man jumping into the ditch while conducting the drive.
When they turned up at the spot on the bank of the ditch the people started running away on different directions and it was not possible for cops to follow every one of them, police said. ‘We became aware of it only when locals spot the body on Sunday afternoon,’ said Jahangir.
Jahangir said that the victim’s body was sent to Dhaka Medical College for autopsy and an unnatural death case would be filed in connection.
He said that they had arrested three drug traders during the drive at about 12:30am.
