Two magistrates’ courts in Dhaka on Thursday asked Gulshan and the Tejgaon police stations to execute by July 5 the warrants of arrest issued on October 12, 2017 against former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in two separate cases, said public prosecutor Abdullah Abu.
The magistrates courts issued the orders to the police one day after the Appellate Division upheld four months’ bail granted to Khaleda Zia by the High Court Division in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.
On October 12, 2017, a warrant was issued by the magistrate’s court to get Khaleda Zia arrested by the Gulshan police station

on the charge of doctoring her date of birth.
On the same date, another magistrate’s court issue the 2nd warrant to get Khaleda Zia arrested by the Tejgaon police station on the allegation that she had shown undermined the national flag by appointing Jamaat leaders as ministers.
Public prosecutor Abdullah Abu said that the magistrates’ courts gave fresh orders to the police to execute the old warrants of arrest as they were not executed earlier.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyers told New Age that the old warrants were being used against the former prime minister with the malafide motive of obstructing her release on bail.

The courts of metropolitan magistrates Khurshid Alam and Ahsan Habib asked the two police stations to submit compliance reports by July 5.
Both the courts asked the two police stations to execute the old warrants of arrest against Khaleda Zia keeping her bail applications in their files for record.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder said in both the magistrates’ courts that since she was already in jail she could be granted bail by showing her as arrested in both the cases.
On August 30, 2016, Gazi Zahirul Islam, former joint general secretary of AL-backed Dhaka Union of Journalists filed a case against Khaleda Zia in the court of Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate alleging that she had doctored her date of birth.
On November 3, 2016, AB Siddique president of pro AL Jananetri Parishad filed the case regarding undermining the national flag against Khaleda Zia in the Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate’s court.

It took one year for the two magistrates’ courts to take the allegations into cognizance and issue the warrants against Khaleda Zia on October 12, 2017.
On Thursday, after receiving Khaleda Zia’s application placed by her lawyer Sanaullah Mia, a Special Judge’s court withdrew the warrant to produce her in the Niko case.
Sanaullah Mia filed separate applications in three courts in Dhaka to withdraw their warrants to produce her GATCO, Coalmine and Zia Charitable Trust cases.
The three courts sent the warrants to the jail authorities to produce her at hearings.
She is on bail in all the four cases.
A Comilla court set June 7 for holding further hearings on her bail applications in two separate arson attack cases in which she has been shown arrested.
