‘Robber’ beaten dead in Jessore

A suspected robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack at village Majhiali in Bagharpara upazila early Thursday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The police said that a gang of robbers had swooped on Mansur Ali’s house and took the house inmates hostage at gunpoint around 2:00am.
When local people sensed the presence of robbers in the area, they surrounded the house and chased the robbers.
At one stage, the locals caught one of the robbers and gave him a good beating, leaving him dead on the spot while the others managed to flee the scene, said in-charge of Khajura police camp Masudur.
Hazera Begum, 50, and her son’s father-in-law Dewin Mohammad were injured as the robbers stabbed them on being resisted. They were taken to a local hospital.
