A bike-rider was killed when he was hit by a bus competing with another bus on Mayor Hanif Flyover in the capital’s Jatrabari on Thursday morning.
The bike-rider, Nazim Uddin, 45, a senior executive of daily Dhaka Tribune, was declared dead after he was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital
at about 10:15am.
Witnesses said two buses — Sraban and Manjil paribahans — were on a competition and Sraban Paribahan hit the bike-rider while it was overtaking Manjil Paribahan on the flyover.
‘We found the man fell on the ground. We rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead,’ said a government employee, Mehedi Hasan Sharif.
He said the passengers of the Sraban Paribahan forced their driver to stop the bus.
The family members said Nazim lived with his family in the capital’s Shyampur area.
The victim’s cousin Mosle Uddin Rifat, a college teacher, demanded justice.
Jatrabari police station duty officer Naznin Hasan said they have arrested the driver, Mohammad Ohidul of Sraban Paribahan.
Nazim was the general secretary of Lalmohon Foundation in Dhaka.
