Around 600 answer scripts of nine courses of the computer science and engineering department at the University of Chittagong were mysteriously burnt on Tuesday night.
The incident came to the notice of Shamsul Alam, an office assistant, on Wednesday morning after he found the lock of the department office room broken.
Liton Mitra, an assistant proctor at the university, said that the answer scripts, tied in 11 bundles, of third, fifth and seventh semester students got burnt completely to ashes.
The department found burnt scripts lying on the roof of the building, he said.
The university authorities formed a three-member probe body headed by biological science faculty dean Mahbubur Rahman to investigate the matter, he added.
Two other members of the committee are assistant proctors Liton Mitra and Helal Uddin.
The motive behind the incidence was yet to be known.
