An eighteen-year-old college girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a community clinic in Lakshimpur area of Rajshahi on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Sathi Khatun, 18, daughter of the late Mir Abul Bashar of Jhenaidah Sadar. She was an examinee of this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate examinations.
Witnesses and locals said that the Sathi jumped off the roof of Rajshahi Model Hospital around 2:00pm.
She was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Sathi’s brother Nazim Uddin said that she went to the hospital on Wednesday to see medicine specialist Mizanur Rahman who was treating her for a skin disease she had been suffering from.
When she had come to the hospital with her mother in the morning, the doctor asked her to get admitted to the hospital soon after which Sathi allegedly jumped off the building’s roof, he added.
‘I cannot believe she committed suicide,’ the brother said, adding that she had been married just seven months ago.
Rajpara police officer-in-charge Hafizur Rahman said that the body was sent to the RMCH morgue for a post-mortem examination.
