Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that people would reject those in the next general election who had rejected the result of Khulna city election.
He was addressing a press conference at the AL president’s office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka to express thanks and gratitude to the people who had voted for AL candidates in Khulna election.
Relying to a question, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, claimed that the election, held on Tuesday, was free, fair and credible.
‘BNP, however, has been trying to make the election controversial from the beginning and they had rejected the result as its candidate was defeated,’ Quader said.
He thanked the Khulna people for electing Talukder Abdul Khaleque, the ruling party nominated candidate, as the mayor.
Terming the judiciary as free and independent, Quader said Khaleda Zia had got bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust case from Supreme Court but she had several other cases to get bail before getting release from the jail.
