The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday threatened to boycott Khulna city election if the government tries to rig it.
‘We will boycott the election if the incumbent will rig the Khulna city election,’ said the party’s standing committee member Moudud Ahmed.
Issuing warning against any type of electoral fraud, namely rigging, manipulation, intimidation and ballot stuffing, Moudud said the party would give a call to boycott the election if any fraudulence was found.
He said these while addressing an indoor rally at the National Press Club organised by Shafiul Bari Mukti Parishad, an action council to free Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebok Dal president Shafiul Bari Babu from jail, in demand of the release of jailed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and Shafiul Bari.
Moudud said plainclothes were sent to Khulna from Dhaka.
They law enforcers might be used in stuffing ballots or occupying polling centers and in deterring the polling agents for the BNP-nominated mayoral candidate from entering into the polling centers.
He alleged that the polling agents were being intimidated for not staying in their houses for last three days.
About launching Bangabandhu-1 satellite, Moudud said they are proud that the satellite was sent to the space.
‘But we want to know how much public money was wasted and in this project,’ the standing committee member said.
He asked the government to make public in details about the project including its expenditure, manpower and monitoring system.
Presided over by convener of the Shafiul Bari Mukti Parishad, Md Foyezullah Foeyz, BNP leaders Barkat Ullah Bulu, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and Sarfat Ali Sapu also addressed the meeting.
