Pacer Yeasin Arafat suddenly came under the limelight when he was picked in three separate squads that the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced in last two days.
The 19-year old pacer, who was named in the 31-member preliminary squad for the West Indies Tour, was also selected in the both squads for the High Performance Core Programme and High Performance Specialised Pace Bowling camp, announced on Wednesday.
A total of 24 players, including 13 batsmen, five spinners and six seamers, were included in the HP Core Programme for a six-week long programme to be continued from May 28 to mid-September this year.
The BCB also announced a 15-member squad for a week long and HP Specialised Pace Bowling camp, to be held in Cox’s Bazar, starting from May 24.
‘I was not expecting to get such opportunity like this way,’ Yeasin told New Age on Wednesday.
‘I was expecting that selectors might call me for HP team and maximum for ‘A’ team but I was very much surprised to see me in the preliminary squad list of the national side,’ he added.
The 6-feet 1-inch pacer from Noakhali, who made his domestic debut two years back, played only four first-class matches and five List A matches so far in his career.
During his one of the four appearances in the Dhaka Premier League for Gazi Group this year, Yeasin surprised everyone by producing a stunning 8-40 against Abahani Limited, the best bowling figure by a Bangladeshi in List-A cricketer.
Yeasin also put up an eye-catching performance in the Bangladesh Cricket League picking up seven wickets for BCB North Zone in his only match in the franchise-based first-class competition.
‘After my performance in the DPL, I also bowled well in a BCL match I played which I think helped me get a call for the national team [preliminary camp],’ he said.
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin claimed that there was no different plan with Yeasin despite picking him for three different teams.
‘We have certain plans for those who are included in the both national camp and HP camp. They will train with the national team and then they will go back to the HP camp,’ he said.
‘All these programmes are under the BCB. So, we can put a player in any team that we believe is suitable for him,’ he added.
