Workers of a ready-made garments factory freed Dhaka-Aricha highway at Savar Bazaar Bus stand area after blocking it for three hours demanding the wages on Tuesday.
A few hundred workers of Abbas Apparels Limited took the highway at about 11:30 am demanding their unpaid wages for up to last three months and open their factory immediately, said Savar circle additional police superintendent Khorshed Alam.
Quoting workers, he said the factory authorities told the workers that they would pay all dues by April 26, but workers found the factory closed when they went there for work.
For last few days workers tried to communicate with the authorities but none from them pay heed to their demand and then they took the roads for three hours, he said.
Later workers opened the road at about 2:30pm after police’s assurance that the authorities would soon resolve the issue.
