The victim of assault by Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Nurul Azim Rony in Chittagong has gone into hiding after lodging a case against the BCL leader for the torture he endured allegedly for failing to pay his demanded amount of Tk 20 lakh.
The police, however, could not arrest the BCL leader even after a day the case was lodged by the victim, Md Rashed Mia, owner of a coaching centre, with Panchlaish Police Station on Thursday against two including Nurul Azim Rony, general secretary of Chittagong city unit BCL.
‘Now I feel insecure after filing the case against Rony and left my residence at Sugandha,’ Rashed Mia, also a resident of Sugandha area in the port city, told New Age.
‘Some unidentified youths came to my Sugandha residence Thursday night and were looking for me. I was not at home then,’ Rashed claimed.
‘Police are conducting drives to arrest all the accused,’ said Mohiuddin Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Panchlaish Police Station.
The OC said they would take security measures if Rashed felt insecure.
On February 17, Nurul Azim Rony physically assaulted Rashed as he declined to give Rony Tk 20 Lakh which he had demanded.
A video clipping also went viral on social media where it was seen that Rony slapped Rashed repeatedly.
A few days ago, a non-government college principal also filed a case against Nurul Azim Rony for assaulting him for extortion.
Despite several attempts, Nurul Azim Rony, could not be reached for comment over phone.
