Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday interrogated ruling Awami League lawmaker Mizanur Rahman on charge of acquiring wealth illegally.
The commission deputy director, Manzur Morshed, interrogated the Khulna-2 constituency lawmaker at its interrogation cell for about five hours, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
He said that the commission also asked the lawmaker to submit his wealth statement to the commission within seven days.
Emerging from the interrogation cell, Mizan told reporters that a powerful quarter filed the fake complain against him to keep him away of the next general election.
He said that he explained to the ACC inquiry officer the allegation against him.
He also said that he would submit his wealth statement to the commission within a day or two.
The ACC launched the inquiry against Mizan on March 8 following an allegation that he misused his power in Khulna City Corporation and other government offices in his constituency to secure work orders in the name of members of his family.
On April 10, the ACC interrogated another AL lawmaker Kamrul Ashraf Khan (Narsingdi-2). The commission interrogated him following a complaint that Kamrul, owner of Poton Traders, earned illegal wealth by embezzling government fertiliser.
