A former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, ruling Awami League-backed student organisation, was arrested in Sylhet Sunday night as his two cheques of Tk 25 lakh were dishonoured by a bank.
The arrested was identified as Imran Chowdhury, former vice-president of the district unit BCL and son of Sharaf Uddin Chowdhury, of Chandrima Residential Area in the city, police said.
Kotwali police officer-in-charge Gausul Hussain said that Imran was arrested around 9:45pm on Sunday as one Mosharraf Hossain Chowdhury, of Shahjalal Upashahar in the city, filed two cases with chief metropolitan magistrate court on February 8 against Imran.
He filed the cases as two cheques of Tk 25 lakh given by Imran were dishonoured and the court issued arrest warrant against Imran as he was absconding, the OC said.
The court ordered to send Imran to jail on Monday when he was produced before the court, the OC added.
