It was a nice treat for theatre lovers in Dhaka as renowned actors like Aly Zaker, Asaduzzaman Noor, Ataur Rahman, Abul Hayat, Sara Zaker, Aupee Karim, Pantha Shahriar and others, who occasionally perform on stage these days, staged a collage comprising selected parts of Nagarik Natya Sampraday’s fan-favourite plays on Friday.
The collage featuring selected parts of plays like Baki Itihas, Raktakarabi, Dewan Gazir Kissa, Mukhosh, Galileo and Sat Manusher Khoje was staged at Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity on the opening day of the three-day festival organised by Nagarik Natya Sampraday celebrating its golden jubilee and 45th year of introducing ticketing system in theatre.
Abul Hayat, Ataur Rahman and Sara Zaker were the first to take the stage. They staged selected parts of Nagarik’s play Baki Itihas, Ataur Rahman and Aupee Karim staged parts of Raktakarabi, Aly Zaker staged parts of Galileo and Dewan Gazir Kissa and Asaduzzaman Noor and Aly Zaker staged parts of Nuroldiner Sarajiban to the delight of the audience.
Earlier, eminent theatre and cultural activists like Syed Hasan Imam, Mamtazuddin Ahmed, Mustafa Monwar, Ramendu Majumdar, Ferdousi Majumder, Shimul Yousuf and others inaugurated the festival by lighting candles.
Nagarik Natya Sampraday president Aly Zaker announced of introducing three awards named after late poet-playwright Syed Shamsul Haque, actor-director Khaled Khan and Nagarik Natya Sampraday founding president Zia Haider. Nagarik Natya Sampraday will present these awards regularly from next year.
Besides, Nagarik Natya Sampraday will also facilitate ten theatre products. The troupe has invited directors and theatre troupes to submit scripts. ‘Nagarik Natya Sampraday will give financial assistance to troupes to produce ten plays’, said Aly Zaker.
Nagarik celebrated Bangla New Year 1425 on Saturday through a special programme styled ‘Nagariker Baishakh’.
The programme featured songs and recitation. Farhin Khan Joyita, daughter of Khaled Khan, and others performed at the show.
Nagarik premiered its play Open Couple on Sunday, the concluding day of the festival. The play, adapted from Italian playwright Dario Fo’s play with the same title, has been directed by Sara Zaker.
Founded in 1968, Nagarik Natya Sampraday has so far produced 45 plays including many fan-favourite ones like Nuroldiner Sarajiban, Irsha, Dewan Gazir Kissa, Galileo, Raktakarabi, Buro Shaliker Ghare Row, Bisarjan and others.
