One hundred and fifty artistes will perform at Chhayanaut’s New Year celebrations programme at Ramna Park on Pahela Baishakh.
The programme styled ‘Bishwayaner Bastobotay Shekorer Sondhane’ will feature flute recital, 16 solo and 12 chorus songs by the artistes, said Chhayanaut general secretary Laisa Ahmed Lisa at a press conference held at Chhayanaut Auditorium on Tuesday.
Chhayanaut president Dr Sanjida Khatun, its executive president Dr Sarwar Ali and vice-president Khairul Anam Shakil, among others, were present at the event.
‘We will welcome the Bangla New Year 1425 with a recital of a morning raga on flute at 6:15am. Students and teachers of Chhayanaut will welcome the Bangla New Year through songs’, said Laisa Ahmed Lisa.
Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will broadcast the programme live. Besides, viewers will be able to enjoy the programme for the first time at Chhanaut’s youtube channel, said Lisa.
‘It is indeed worrying that our youths are becoming distant from our cultural roots because of globalisation. If we do not adhere to our culture, we will surely fail to build the humanitarian society we all dreamt of’, said Sanjida Khatun. ‘Now is the time to use culture as a weapon and fight against religious extremism and bigotry,’ she added.
Chhayanaut has been organising the Bangla New Year celebrations programme since 1967.
