The High Court Division on Tuesday rejected a writ petition challenging the legality of merging six mouzas of Shimulia union in Savar with the Gazipur City.
A bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Faruque (M Faruque) rejected the petition saying it could affect the Gazipur mayoral polls.
The petitioner did not press the matter as he does not want to hamper the election.
Shimulia union parishad chairman ABM Azharul Islam, the petitioner, popularly called Suraj, had in the petition prayed to stay the efficacy of the local government division’s gazette notification issued on March 4 merging the six mouzas of Savar with the Gazipur City.
He submitted that there was no justification to merge Savar areas with the Gazipur City created in 2013 by merging Gazipur and Tongi municipal towns.
There was no illegality in merging the six impugned mouzas with the Gazipur City submitted attorney general Mahbubey Alam and deputy attorney general Amatul Karim as records showed that they were integral parts of Joydevpur, in Gazipur district.
