Ruling Awami League-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League activists allegedly beat a college teacher as he stopped them from cheating during the English second part of Higher Secondary School Certificate examinations at Bogra on Saturday.
Witnesses said that the BCL activists assaulted teacher Nure Alam Siddiqui, who had been acting as an invigilator at Abdul Mannan Mohila College under Sariakandi upazila of the district.
College principal Shah Alam said since the exam started at 10:00am BCL activists and also HSC examinees, led by one Omar and Swapan, put pressure on Siddiqui to allow them copying at the exam.
‘But the teacher was strict to his duty and barred the examinees from doing any cheating,’ he said.
The frantic examinees had beaten up Siddiqui with sticks when he walked out of the centre after the exam, he said.
After the incident, Siddiqui went into hiding and his phone remained switched till filing this report at 8:00pm.
When contacted, officer-in-charge (investigation) Sariakandi police station, Enayet Hossain he was not aware of the issue.
Upazila unit BCL general secretary Delwar Hossain Dulal said that if any activists from his organization were found involved stern actions would be taken against them.
