The High Court on Thursday granted interim bail for six months to seven leaders of Garment Workers’ Trade Union Centre in a case filed against them for allegedly attacking and assaulting officials of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association on January 31.
A bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim granted them bail after hearing their petitions.
Lawyer Montu Ghosh, also a GWTUC leader, appeared for the seven leaders.
GWTUC general secretary Joly Talukder, organising secretary KM Mintu, international affairs secretary Monzur Moin, Gazipur district unit general secretary Jalal Hawlader, Savar-Asulia unit president Lutfar Rahman and central committee members Shahjahan and Sajedur Rahman landed in jail after they surrendered in the magistrates’ court seeking their bail on April 1.
Earlier, the High Court had granted anticipatory bail for a limited period to the seven leaders and Montu Ghosh, who is also accused in the case, and directed them to surrender in the lower court seeking regular bench.
On April 1, all but Montu Ghosh landed in jail.
Ramna police later sought their remand in police custody for interrogation.
