Autistic children display artworks in Sylhet

Sylhet deputy commissioner Numery Zaman, right inaugurates ‘Fine Arts Festival 1424 for Children’ at Sylhet Art and Autistic School on Monday.

A 13-day group show featuring artworks by autistic children titled ‘Child’s Fine Arts Festival 1424’ began at Sylhet Art and Autistic School in Kumarpara of Sylhet city on Monday.
The show has been organised by Sylhet Art and Autism Foundation marking the World Autism Awareness Day, which was observed around the globe on Monday. International community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world observe the day though ‘light it up blue’ campaign.
Deputy commissioner of Sylhet Numery Zaman inaugurated the event as the chief guest by lighting a blue candle on the premises of Sylhet Art and Autistic School.
The show is displaying artworks created in crayon, and water colour. The majourity of the artworks portray rustic life, scenic beauty of Bangladesh, wild life and others.
Besides paintings, the event is also featuring crafts fair, mask making workshop, film screenings, cultural shows and others.
Sylhet Art and Autistic School will organise cultural shows featuring songs, recitation, dance recitals and others by autistic children on April 13 and 14 celebrating Chaitra Sangkranti and Pahela Baishakh respectively, said the organisers.
The show will remain open for all till April 14.
