A case was filed with a Jessore court against two policemen for implicating a man in a ‘false’ case and not releasing him even after taking money from his family.
The accused policemen were sub-inspector Farid Ahmed and assistant sub-inspector Khademul Gaffar of Bashuari police camp in Abhaynagar upazila.
Abul Kalam Mollah, son of Kaiyum Mollah of Ichhamati village in the upazila, filed the case on Sunday.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the court fixed April 10 for the next hearing.
According to the case statement, Kalam who was a drug dealer submitted an application to the police super of Jessore stating that he would return to normal life and the appeal was granted.
However, the accused policemen demanded money from Kalam even after he had left the drug business and threatened him in different ways.
On failing to extort money from Kalam, the policemen detained Kalam’s brother Tariqul recently and informed Kalam that they recovered 32kg hemp, 500gm heroin and six firearms from his brother.
Two policemen demanded Tk 1 lakh for his release, according to the case statement.
Tariqul’s wife Roksana went to the police camp and gave them Tk 50,000 to get her husband released. The policemen also took her gold ornaments and assured her that they would not file any case against her husband.
However, the policemen sent Tariqul to court after showing him arrested in a case.
It was mentioned in the case statement that there were records of telephone conversations with the police.
According to the complaint, the family was now feeling insecure following the threats they received from the policemen.
