Shipping minister Shajahan Khan on Sunday sounded a note of warning that those who were out to grab riverbanks would be sternly dealt with.
‘Illegal establishments on the bank of rivers will be demolished to free the rivers from grabbers. No mercy will be shown to them in this regard,’ he told newsmen after witnessing activities of removing illegal establishments on Buriganga riverbank at Meererbagh in Keraniganj of Dhaka.
The minister said that either side of the River Buriganga will be freed from illegal occupation to revive the natural form of the river.
Shajahan said that grabbers had filled up 400 to 600 feet of the river after removing boundary pillars at the bank to establish different establishments and dockyards.
