Cultural organisation Kranti Shilpi Gosthi honoured renowned singer Akramul Islam with Mahmudul Haider Mohon Padak at a programme held at the seminar room of Central Public Library, Shahbagh on Thursday.
Kranti Shilpi Gosthi honoured Akramul Islam for his contribution to the country’s music scene at the programme which was organised marking the sixth death anniversary of former Kranti president Mahmudul Haider Mohon.
Mahmudul Haider Mohan, who died in 2012, was a renowned people’s song singer and a freedom fighter. He was also founding general secretary of Bangladesh Ganasangeet Smannay Parishad.
Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Golam Kuddus, Bangladesh Ganasangeet Samannay Parishad president Fakir Alamgir, Bangladesh Path Natok Parishad general secretary Ahmed Gias and others were present at the programme.
‘Mahmudul Haider Mohon was a dedicated cultural activist, organiser and freedom fighter. He was very active in the local cultural scene’, said Golam Kuddus, who handed over the Mahumdul Haider Mohan Padak to Akramul Islam.
After receiving the award Akramul Islam said, ‘I feel honoured to receive an award named after Mahmudul Haider Mohon. He was a renowned singer, freedom fighter, cultural activist and organiser’.
Kranti Shilpi Goshthi introduced Mahmudul Haider Mohon Padak in 2013. The organisation has previously honoured singers and artists like Namita Ghosh, Abu Bakar Siddiqui and Ferdousi Priyabhashini, among others, with the award.
