Sylhet-based theatre troupe Diganta Theatre staged its play Pejgy on the fourth day of the ongoing week-long theatre festival at Kabi Nazrul Auditorium at Rikabi Bazar in Sylhet on Thursday.
Pejgy, based on a play of the French playwright Moliere, has been translated into Bangla by Apu Aman and directed by Dibakar Sarker Shekhar.
The story of the play revolves around Pejgy Mia who is a carpenter by profession. He is also a drunkard and a liar. A cunning Pejgy Mia pretends to be a physician and starts treating Laily, the one and only daughter of uneducated wealthy person Azgar Ali. Pejgy, however, gets caught in the end.
Dibakar Sarker Shekhar, Devi Rajlakkhi Talukder, Saifur Rahman Suman, Oli Rahman, Abu Bakar Al Amin, Kamrun Nahar Ansari (Shaon), Shabnaz Azad Lisa and Nazmul Hossain Emon acted in the play.
Kolkata-based theatre troupe Kalyani Natyacharcha Kendra staged its play Nural Deener Sarajiban, written by Syed Shamsul Haque and directed by Kishor Sengupta, at the festival on Friday.
The week-long festival has been organised by Sammilita Natya Parishad Sylhet, a platform of the Sylhet-based theatre troupes, in association with cultural affairs ministry of Bangladesh, Sylhet City Corporation and Sylhet-based cricket team Sylhet Sixers to promote cultural exchange between Bangladesh and West Bengal of India.
The festival will continue till March 25.
