The Chief Justice on Wednesday assigned two benches of High Court Division to speedily dispose of separate death references in the 10-truck arms haul case and the case relating to plot kill prime minister Sheikh Hasina at Gopalganj in 2000.
In the arms haul case 14 were handed death sentences in 2014.
In the case relating to the plot to assassinate Hasina 10 were given death sentences in 2017.
A bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Md Jahangir Hossain was assigned to dispose of the death reference of the abortive assassination case.
The bench sits today to set its hearing schedule.
The other bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam has been assigned to dispose of the death reference of the arms haul case.
The bench sits Sunday to fix its hearing schedule.
In the arms haul case, 14 handed death sentences included former industries minister and Jamaat amir Matiur Rahman Nizami, former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar and former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence and the National Security Intelligence retired major general Rezzaqul Haider Chowdhury, former NSI DG retired brigadier general Abdur Rahim, retired wing commander Shahabuddin Ahmed, former NSI deputy director retired major Liaquat Hossain, NSI field officer Akbar Hossain Khan, former industry ministry additional secretary
Nurul Amin, military wing commander of the United Liberation Front of Assam Parseh Barua Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Factory’s former managing director Mohsen Uddin Talukder.
Paresh Barua was convicted in absentia as he is absconding.
