Legendary female freedom fighter Kakon Bibi died at Sylhet Osmai Medical College Hospital Wednesday night. She was 70.
She was suffering from old age complications and others diseases.
Duty doctor at the hospital Mizanur Rahman said that Kakon Bibi died at about 11:30pm.
She took part in the War of Independence in Sylhet sub-sector.
Her real name was Kaket and she belonged to Khasia ethnic group. Her ancestral home was at bordering village Natrai in Meghalaya in India. Her sister was married to a commander of the border guards, she moved along with her sister at Khathalbari of Doarabazaar in Sylhet.
In 1971, Kakon Bibi was arrested and brutally tortured by Pakistani army as she worked as a war spy and fought against the Pakistani army.
She fearlessly took part in about 20 direct battles actively. She sustained bullet injuries in the leg at Ambari battle.
