A Sylhet court on Tuesday granted police eight days to question Enamul Hasan, elder brother of Fayzul Hasan, who is the main suspect of an attack on writer Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, in connection with a case filed over the attempted assassination.
Jalalabad police placed Enamul Hasan to the Sylhet metropolitan magistrate court in the afternoon and sought 10 days to quiz him in police custody.
The metropolitan third court magistrate, Haridas Thakur, however, granted eight days, said Jalalabad police officer-in-charge Shafiqur Rahman.
He said that Fayzul’s mother Minara Begum, who was questioned for two days in police custody, was also produced before the court after ending of the period, and the court send her to judicial custody.
On Thursday, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit arrested Enamul from Gazipur
and handed him over to the Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
Fayzul stabbed Zafar Iqbal, also computer science and engineering professor at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet, on February 3 when the professor was inspecting some projects in a robotic competition on SUST campus.
Fayzul, 24, was caught immediately after the incident and handed over to the police.

On February 5, SUST registrar Ishfaqul Hossain filed a case with the Jalalabad police against Fayzul and four unidentified people for stabbing the professor.
