The ruling Awami League candidate in Brahmanbaria-1 and Jatiya Party candidate in Gaibandha-1 were unofficially elected in by-elections in the two constituencies.
JP candidate in Gaibandha Shamim Hayder Patwary secured the constituency defeating AL candidate Afruza Bari while in Brahmanbaria AL’s Bodruddoza M Farhad Hossain won defeating JP’s Rezwan Ahmed.
Brahmanbaria-1 parliamentary seat fell vacant on December 16 following the death of former fisheries and livestock minister Muhammad Sayedul Hoque while Gaibandha-1 constituency fell vacant on December 19 following the death of lawmaker Golam Mostafa.
New Age correspondent in Brahmanbaria reported that JP candidate of the constituency rejecting the polls demanded re-election calming that massive vote rigging and irregularities were taken place by the AL people.
Gaibandha correspondent reported that the executive registered fined four AL leaders for violating the electoral code of conduct during the polls.
The BNP did not participate in the elections in consequence of boycotting the 10th parliamentary polls demanding a non-party election-time government.
