HRFB protests at police obstruction to opposition rally

Human Right Forum Bangladesh, a platform of a number of non-government organisations, in a statement on Sunday expressed deep concerns over the obstruction to holding political rally organised by Bangladesh Nationalist Party in recent times.
The platform stated the recent incident of how the police in plainclothes dragged away Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal city north unit president SM Mizanur Rahman in the capital on March 8.
The statement also reminded the police it duty and said holding rally and freedom of expression were constitutional rights.
Concern was also expressed over similar police action in another rally held in front of the BNP’s central party office on February 24, demanding release of former prime minister and BNP’s chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The platform expected more professional and accommodative role from police and, called for showing respect to the rights of holding peaceful rally.
