Rubel-Mendis exchange heated words
Sri Lankan openers Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis provided the hosts an aggressive start against Bangladesh in their tri-series Twenty20 tournament match on Saturday. Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain was brought into attack in the third over of their innings and despite conceding a boundary in the first ball of the over, he was able to provide some dot balls with some fiery deliveries. In the final ball of the same over, Rubel delivered a short ball to Mendis’s leg stump and he played for a single in the square-leg region. But suddenly the scenario became heated with Rubel engaging heated words with Mendis after the batsman completed the single. Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah soon joined Mendis in the aggressive talks but after the interference of the on-field umpires the matter was resolved.
Sabbir takes a blinder
Although Bangladeshi bowlers provided an awful performance against Sri Lanka on Saturday, fielder Sabbir Rahman displayed some great efforts in the field. Sabbir took two catches of Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka in midwicket area off Mahmudullah in the 14th over that helped the Tigers to halt the Sri Lankan sizzling batting to some extent. But his best effort came in final ball of the 15th over when he took an excellent flying catch at mid-off to dismiss Dinesh Chandimal. With this catch, Sabbir became the first Bangladeshi player to take three catches in a Twenty20 match.
Mahmudullah takes 11 from one-ball
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah were giving Bangladesh some real hope to chase down their highest target in the Twenty20 matches after top-orders gave the Tigers a blazing starts. The Tigers needed 58 runs in the final five overs and Thisara Perera conceded seven runs in first five deliveries of the sixteenth over. But in the last ball, Mahmudullah smashed Thisara for a six off a full-toss that umpires signalled no-ball which gave the Tigers an extra-ball with free hit. Mahmudullah then utilised the free hit by smashing a boundary to complete 11 runs in one delivery.
