Khulna Metropolitan Police imposed a ban on public gathering at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna city for 18 hours since Saturday 6:00am as Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Bangladesh Awami Mahila League announced that they would hold rally at the venue today at the same time.
KMP additional deputy commissioner Sonali Sen said that they had banned all types of gathering at the park from Saturday 6:00am to Sunday 12:00am to avoid any untoward incident as two influential parties sought permission for holding rally at the venue on the same day.
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, who is now in Khulna, at a press conference at KD Ghosh Road party office on Friday said they, on February 27, had sought permission from both KMP and Khulna City Corporation for their divisional
KCC gave permission but KMP imposed the ban, he said in presence of a number of BNP leaders.
He complained that police did not give them permission as part of the government ploy to bar them from holding any rally demanding release of BNP chief Khaleda
KMP officials, however, denied the allegation and said that the police would not interrupt the BNP rally if the organised it at any other place.
Khulna BNP insiders said they would hold the divisional rally in front of the party office.
