Pahari Chhatra Parishad and Hill Women’s Federation on Friday staged demonstration in Dhaka seeking justice for a Tripura girl, who was reportedly raped by a settler Bengali youth at Matiranga of Khagrachhari on Thursday.
They also demanded highest punishment of the suspects as the rape incidents were rampant in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
While addressing the rally in front of the National Museum, Sangram Tripura, president of Hill Women’s Federation Dhaka Metropolitan Unit said women were not safe anywhere even on the International Women’s Day.
Saying that culture of impunity prompted the rape incidents, Sangram Tripura also demanded exemplary punishment of Mohammad Alam, who allegedly raped the girl.
She also threatened to wage tougher movement if the government failed to ensure justice.
They also brought out a procession from Dhaka University TSC.
Earlier on Thursday, a 13-year-old Tripura girl was reportedly raped in Gomati area in Matigranga of Khagrachhari.
The girl came under attack at about 7:00am when she went to a nearby stream to fetch water.
The victim was rushed to Matiranga hospital, but later transferred to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
