A man was killed and two others injured as ‘group of robbers’ exchanged gunshots at Nayapara Rohingya refugee camp in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday morning at about 6:00am.
Teknaf Police identified the dead as suspected robber Hossain Ali known as Bailla Dakat,32, whose father Baccha Mia resides in the Nayapara camp. Teknaf Police Station officer-in-charge Ranjit Kumar Barua said the gunfight had possibly occurred over establishing supremacy leaving Hossain dead on the spot.
The OC said that after conducting raids, police arrested two siblings Abdur Razzak, 26, and Abdus Salam, 32, who had also suffered bullet wounds. The two were followers of Rohingya robber gang leader Abdul Hakim, he added.
The three are named in multiple cases filed with Teknaf police, he added.
Another robber, Nurul Alam, who was injured in the gunfight, managed to flee from the scene.
