Senior secretary of ministry of public administration Mozammel Haque Khan on Thursday said that the government had no plans to reform the existing quota system in the public service.
‘At present, 57 per cent of the posts, including those under the BCS, are reserved for different quotas...The government has no plan to reduce the quota,’ he told journalists at his secretariat office in Dhaka.
Earlier, the ministry of public administration issued a gazette, saying that the vacant posts would be filled up with candidates from the merit list, if eligible candidates are not found under any quota.
The secretary said there are around 14 lakh government service holders in the country and many of them are going on retirement every day.
