Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said on Thursday that his party would take no responsibility for any incident happened outside the venue of its rally on Wednesday.
‘Why we shall take the responsibility for any incident outside our party rally at Suhrawardy Udyan,’ Quader replied to a press query on the allegation of sexual assault on a college girl by a group of youths chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan at Bangla Motor in Dhaka on Wednesday.
‘We would not take any responsibility as it happened far away from our March 7 grand rally at Suhrawrdy Udyan,’ he said at a press conference at Dhanmandi-3 office of the party president after a meeting of the sub-committee of office secretaries. He, however, said that the government had the responsibility if any incident happened outside the rally.
Office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, deputy office secretary Biplab Barua and others attended the press conference.
Home minster Asaduzzaman Khan, however, said at a separate programme on Thursday that the alleged sexual assault would be investigated and the perpetrators would be identified from the video footage.
