One killed in ‘robbers’ gunfight in Rohingya camp

A man was killed and two others injured as ‘group of robbers’ exchanged gunshots at Nayapara Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

Police identified the dead ‘robber’ old Hossain Ali alias Bailla Dakat,32. His father Bacha Mia resides in the Nayapara camp.

Teknaf police officer-in-charge Ranjit Kumar Barua said the gunfight over establishing supremacy began early in the morning and it left Hossain dead.

He said police conducting raids arrested two siblings Abdur Razzak, 26, and Abdus Salam, 32, who also suffered bullet wounds. The two are followers Rohingya robber Abdul Hakim, he said. 

The three are named in multiple cases filed with Teknaf police, he added.

Another robber, Nurul Alam, was injured in the gunfight but managed to flee.

The body of Hossain was sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital for autopsy.
