At least 10 people were injured as police chased activists of Pahari Chhatra Parishad, Hill Women’s Federation and Democratic Youth Forum in Khagrachhari Wednesday.

Police and witnesses said the three organisations backed by United People’s Democratic Front organised a programme observing the death anniversary of Amar Bikash Chakma and ‘resistance day against masked group’.

As the activists were moblising in front of UPDF office at Swanirbhar in the town, a group of military tried to disperse them that prompted a clash. At one stage, police joined the military and dispersed the crowd firing tear gas shells. The activists also threw stones on the law enforcers.

Later, Khagrachari additional superintendent of police Salah Uddin, Khagrachari sadar upazila nirbahi officer and Khagrachari police officer-in-charge went to the spot and calmed down the agitating activists assuring them of not obstructing their programme.

Later, leaders and activists placed wreaths to Amar Bikash Chakma monument.
