Bangladesh Tennis Federation on Tuesday announced to hold two-day long ‘Bangladesh-Malaysia Friendship Tournament 2018’ this week as part of its attempt to popularize the game.
The competition, which will start on Thursday at the Ramna Tennis Complex, will see top-four seeded players from both countries playing in a Davis Cup format.
‘This is a token of friendship between Bangladesh and Malaysia. We hope that this tournament will help us generate more interest about the game at grassroots level,’ said ASM Haider, vice-president of Bangladesh Tennis Federation at a press conference.
Bangladesh Commerce Bank will sponsor the event jointly organized by BTF and Uttara Club.
Amol Roy, Ranjan Ram, Dipu Lal and Mohammad Akhter Hossain will represent Bangladesh in first ever competition of this kind while Muhammad Aiman bin Hamdan, Talhah bin Mohamad Rahizam, Naufal Siddiq bin Kamruzzaman and Azrul Ekhsan bin Azman will play for Malaysia.
Managing Director of Bangladesh Commerce Bank RQM Forkan, executive member of Uttara Club Salim Shahed were present among others at the press conference.
