Theatre troupe Diganta Theatre Sylhet staged the play Pejgy at Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium at Rikabibazar in Sylhet on Sunday.
The play was staged on the eleventh day of the ongoing 12-day theatre festival organised by Sammilita Natya Parishad Sylhet marking the International Mother Language Day.
The play, based on a play of French playwright JBP Moliere, has been translated into Bangla by Apu Aman and directed by Dibakar Sarker Shekhar.
The story of the play revolves around Pejgy Mia who is a carpenter by profession. Pejgy Mia is a drunkard and liar. A cunning Pejgy Mia pretends to be a doctor and starts treating Laily, the only daughter of illiterate wealthy person Azgar Ali. However, he gets caught in the end.
Dibakar Sarker, Devi Rajlakkhi Talukder, Saifur Rahman Suman, Oli Rahman, Abu Bakar Al Amin, Kamrun Nahar Ansari Shaon, Shabnaz Azad Lisa and Nazmul Hossain Emon acted in the play.
