Oil tanker overturns near airport, spills fuel

A tank lorry of Meghna Petroleum overturned while it was taking a u-turn on the Airport Road in Dhaka on Monday.

Mohammad Nure Azam Mia, officer-in-charge of Airport police station, said the incident took place around 12:30pm when the driver of the tanker lost its control over the steering at the intersection in front of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, spilling fuel from the tanker.

On information, police and a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and removed the tanker around 5 pm, he said.

Later, the firefighters removed the oil spilled on the road.

Due to the incident, fuel spilled from the tanker and spread on the road, causing huge suffering to the commuters, the OC said.

However, the loss caused by the incident could not be ascertained immediately.
