Law enforcing agencies arrested four suspected extremists from Motijheel and Tikatuli areas in the capital Saturday night.
The arrested were identified as Md Jabed Kaisar, 31, Md Mia Rubel, 28, Md Mamun, 27, and Sadman Rahid, 29.
Motijheel police said that a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes unit arrested Jabed, Rubel, Mamun, all are suspected members of a new faction of Jammatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh, from Pirjongi Mazar area around 8:00pm on Saturday.
Police, quoting a case lodged against them with the police station under anti-terrorism act, said that all the three had earlier returned from Singapore after serving in jail there for their suspected extremist activities. The trio was trying to strengthen their organisation and planning to commit destructive activities in the country.
Meanwhile, Alep Uddin, an assistant superintendent of police of Rapid Action Battalion-11, said that a team of RAB arrested Sadman, a suspected member of banned extremist outfit Ansar al Islam, from Tikatuli area Saturday night.
