A mobile Court on Saturday jailed a young man for ten months and ten days for sexually assaulting female Secondary School Certificate examinees in an examination centre in Durgapur upazila of Rajshahi district.
The mobile court led by executive magistrate Somor Kumar Paul, also the assistant commissioner (land) of the upazila, sentenced Afzal Sharif, 18, of village Bhabanipur under the upazila, said Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station.
Sharif is also a Higher Secondary Certificate student of Bahktiarpur Degree College.
Durgapur upazila administration officials and policemen on-duty said the convict entered the examination centre and sexually assaulted a female examinee on the stairs, where she had gone to appear her Geography and Environment Science examination.
After other classmates of the victim protested, he went on to sexually assault them as well, they said.
Later, the on-duty police members detained Sharif and produced him before the mobile court where he admitted his guilt.
The executive magistrate, Somor Kumar Paul, told New Age that he asked the youth whether he knew how many days he had been in his mother’s womb.
‘The young man replied that he was in mother’s womb for 10 months and 10 days. As he admitted his guilt, I sentenced him to jail for the same number of days so that he can repent and rectify himself,’ the executive magistrate said.
Police sources said that the convict was sent to Rajshahi Central Jail in the afternoon.
