Three turtle traders jailed in Old Dhaka

A mobile court on Friday sentenced three people each to nine months in jail for illegally selling turtles and meat of the endangered species at Shakharibazar in Old Dhaka.
Executive magistrate Sarwar Alam said he had handed down the sentence after the members of Rapid Action Battalion-10 and Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Forest Department in a drive seized 80 turtles– both alive and dead – at Shakhari Bazar on Friday morning.
The captured turtles weighed around six mounds.
The three convicted turtle traders are – Dipak Nandi, Panir Chandra Das, and Moyna Rani Sarker.
