EMK Center in collaboration with Dhaka University’s dance department organised a cultural programme on Wednesday under the banyan tree in front of arts faculty of the university marking 46th anniversary of plantation of the ‘EMK Tree’, which stands as a symbol of friendship between the people of the USA and Bangladesh.
The banyan tree, known as EMK Tree, was planted by the US senator Edward M Kennedy on February 14, 1972 at Dhaka University.
Students of DU dance department and musical troupes Shurer Dhara, Shamageet entertained the audience singing songs glorifying spring, while EMK Makerlab presented a digital music performance to the delight of the audience. Artistes presented songs like Ore Bhai Phagun Boney Boney, Dokhin Hawa, Rangiye Diye Jao, Phagun Hawaye Hawaye and others.
Dhaka University’s dance department chairperson Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya and EMK Centre director MK Aaref, among others, were present at the show. Besides, World Valentine’s Day Celebration Committee brought out a procession with the slogan ‘Sohingshota Noy, Bhalobasha Chai’ on Dhaka University campus in the morning.
