Indian Rabindra Sangeet singers Soumi Bhattacharya and Sahana Bakshi entertained the audience singing popular Tagore songs at a show held at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.
Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor was present at the programme as the chief guest. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy director general Liaquat Ali Lucky was present as special guest at the programme.
This was the first ever performance by Soumi Bhattacharya and Sahana Bakshi in Bangladesh.
The singers, who are very popular in India, presented a number of popular Tagore songs based on the theme sakhi (friendship) to the delight of the audience. They also presented a few songs penned by great poets like Rajanikanata Sen, Dwijendralal Roy, Atulprasad Sen and Kazi Nazrul Islam.
‘We will mainly sing Tagore’s songs praising friendship. Besides, we will also render a few songs glorifying spring as today is the first day of spring’, said Sahana Bakshi, before starting the show singing Rajanikanta Sen’s devotional song Ami Akriti Adham.
Next Sahana and Soumi performed a duet of Tagore’s song Ay Tobe Sahachari.
Sahana in solo presented songs like Tagore’s Sakhi Bhabana Kahare Boley, Sajani Sajani Radhika Lo, Dwijendralal Roy’s Hridoy Amar Gopon Korey and Amra Emni Ese Bhese Jai, Atul Prasad Sen’s Eka Mor Ganer Tari and others. Soumi Bhattacharya began her performance singing the popular Tagore song Bhalobese Sakhi. The singer also rendered songs like Tagore’s Delo Sakhi De, Eki Labonye Purna, Kar Milon Chao, Nazrul’s Sai Bhalo Kore and few others.
Besides, the singers also performed duets of songs like Tagore’s Dhole Dhole Phule Phule, Tomar Holo Shuru and others.
