The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology on Tuesday celebrated its 27th founding anniversary with festive mode that coincided with Pahela Falgun, the first day of spring season according to the Bengali calendar.
SUST treasurer Elias Uddin Biswas and the University Day Celebration Committee convener professor Syed Shamsul Alam inaugurated the celebrations at 10:00am through hoisting the national and university flags in front of the administrative building.
They also paid tribute to the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on behalf of vice-chancellor through placing a wreath at his portrait on the campus.
University teachers, students and employees set off a procession on the campus and, later, held a rally that was addressed among others, by professor Syed Shamsul Alam, SUST Teachers’ Association president Syed Hasanuzzaman and proctor Zahir Uddin Ahmad.
University treasurer, together with his colleagues, cut a cake at the administrative building as part of the celebration.
SUST started its journey on 13 February 1991 with three departments and 120 students. Now there are about 11,000 students in 28 disciplines on the campus.
